I have read this through at least once since I received it, and it absolutely floored me... what a brilliant work, it absolutely connects a number of previously disparate trains of thought, and does so in a well thought out, concise manner, in a way that is easy to read and comprehend, even for those without a deep philosophical background. I hope to see more works of this caliber from this author - I expected a good read - and found a book that blew me away, and was a bargain at the price.Thank you!!!!

Dr. Joye is one of the most insightful thinkers at the intersection between philosophy and science and this book is sure not to disappoint anyone who cares to understanature the human condition.
This is a very valuable inquiry. I come to this not as a scientist, but as a theologian. It is easy to pass over the way this study is grounded in the work of the early 20ieth Century Jesuit theologian, Pere Tielhard de Chardin who was so insightful about the re'ation of theological thought and scientific method. "Tuning the Mind" ushers one into the newest and perhaps most controversial area in science today -- the science of consciousness. There are some half dozen different approaches to this overall investigation and there is no consensus in sight. One of the most potent lineages is the one initiated by Karl Pribram and David Bohm and at the present time there is no better way in than through the work of Shelli Renee Joye.
This is a challenging book. It presents concepts that are likely unfamiliar--or at least unfathomable--to most of us. But Joye helps create an interesting and readable context by placing the science of consciousness within the life stories of the scientists and thinkers who have been wrestling with the questions. I was baffled with some of the material in the book, but I also understood more than I expected, and came away from it feeling like I'd really learned something. This is worthwhile reading. The book ends with the promise of a followup with "practical applications" of the concept. I certainly look forward to that book too.
